Stan is the factory's handy man but spends a lot of time in the canteen. He still lives with his dad during series one, but during series two his dad dies.
Stan is very knowledgable on anything electrical, especially the toaster. When someone, often Philippa, provokes him he gets his dander up! He then goes to tell them how his dad was a Desert Rat and then tells them a task his dad did with something obscure, such as "he saved a man's life with a tablespoon."
Before his dad died, Stan didn't have much to do with women but afterwards he had a relationship with nurse Bobbie and then, later on, he and Jean got together and engaged.
