The canteen is where every episode is set. It is a part of HWD Components, a factory in Manchester. We see the kitchen and the seating area but there are other parts that are often talked about but never seen like the toilets and the fire escape. A bit of the office was shown once during the "Christine" episode, when a social worker comes to talk to Bren about Petula.
In the episode "Nightshift", Bren mentioned there are 400 workers in the factory. We assume the majority of them eat in the canteen. It is open for breakfast and lunch.
The kitchen has many appliances to help the girls cook the food. Stan is around to help fix them if anything goes wrong and they are his pride and joy. As Babs told us in "Party", the toaster is an EK727 made in 1989, the grill is an EK550 and the extractor is a Silverline D884.
There seems to be three different ways into the kitchen and canteen plus the fire escape. The seating area appears to have six tables with four chairs each. There is also a T.V in there as seen in the episodes "Scandal", "Gravy" and "Toast". Between episodes 1 and 2 of series 2, the canteen was supposedly painted Butternut but it never changed.
